This time the Rhine and Moselle

Then we headed off to the Rhine and stayed Rudesheim opposite Bingen, we even had to get a car ferry across which was fun for the satnav " take ferry".
Very old hotel in what turned out to be a popular place for Rhine cruises to stop so lots of restaurants playing live music and lots of older people about from the boats..

The above has lots of photos if you can be bothered you will need to copy and paste it as this version of blogger does not seem to do links very well.

View from the boat, we did a Rhine cruise and managed to get a front seat on the top deck. Wonderful views of the castles etc but a bit hot after a while.
After the cruise we headed off to drive up the Rhine and then to the Moselle river valley. It all got a bit messy as we had no Internet the night before we had not booked a hotel. There were wine festivals everywhere and biker gatherings so everywhere was full. We ended up contacting Claire in London to go on the web and find something. The first ones were available on the web but when we got there they were full. Now 7.30 at night so getting a bit desperate.
Finally got Claire to book one and she thought it was 11 km away but ended up 30 minute drive. Got there knocked on door and the owner said they had turned off the web site at 6.30 because they were full .... I must have looked a bit sad as she said that a couple who had booked had not arrived so we could have their room ( nice for us not so good for them if they got in late).  I showed her the booking on my iPad which she had added to her Internet login.  Lovely lady then went over to local bar and got the chef to wait so we could have a meal as it was now after 9pm.

Next morning we breakfasted with some of the 30 bikers booked in as well and she told me the booking came through to them at 10.30 that night.
I used her Internet to book next two nights rooms to avoid this happening again.
The roads are full of motorbikes seems to be a popular way to spend a weekend.
The Moselle valley was lovely with vineyards going straight up impossible hillsides, they have small one rail cog railways that go straight up. They have one seat for the driver which must've a hell of a ride, and room to put all the grapes. You would need a good sense of alance and a head for heights to wor there. This was a flat start as I could get near this one to take the picture the skinny rail over on the left is the pipe it travels up.
I would like to come back to the area with a wine drinker as P only drinks beer so not much fun comparing wines.

Now in Aachen and we walked to a point in the forest where Belgium, Netherlands, and German all meet.
