on the 4th day of Christmas

Claire still in hospital,,,

now the 4th night in hospital her hopes of getting out yesterday were dashed with a really terrible night with a tube in her chest not working and filling up her chest with fluid and then she could not get to the bell to call a nurse... pain from that and another massive headache got the Dr out to her at 4am.
Apparently her bug level was fifty one when she arrived and it's only gone down to forty eight so they're not letting her go until it's lower.

Xmas day
The head nurse up in 5C said that Claire has been examined by three senior doctors and doesn't have the contagious form of meningitis , so they took down the signs and the nurses stopped wearing orange jumpsuits and masks when they went into her room .

Viral meningitis is just like a very severe flu so antibiotics don't work. All the hospital can do is provide pain relief, keep her hydrated through drips, stop the vomits with anti-emetics and give her lots of bed rest.
Normally the patients are fine in a few days so still looking good for the trip over here in January.

What a relief it has been an incredibly horrible couple of days, worse for Claire with ct scans, spinal taps and pain.
Thank goodness her boyfriend was there with her.

... our Christmas is a very quiet affair, presents from my mum and dad which are books, mine is " the most amazing place to visit in England " and his the "Penguin history of WW2" both of which are a huge success and all we have done since brunch is read them.
It is a cold grey day and I don't think we will venture out the door, maybe even be really staid and catch up on some of the sleep we have lost over the last few nights.
Well actually we went for a long walk in a deserted city centre, very odd.
