lights so many lights

We went to the Somerset Illuminated Parade at Glastonbury yesterday. Bit of a slow start when the car would not start even after P pushed it backwards and forwards int he car park building, my fear is that is will take with my foot on the accelerator and I will slam into a wall..
Eventually got our Italian friends to jump start it, his wife's car we tried first and no one could find the battery, it was under the drivers seat!. Anyway up and away and first stop was to buy a portable jump start pack.
By now it was getting on to 3 in the afternoon, lovely drive in the country to Wells, where we visited the cathedral and looked at some stalls in the market. It was getting very cold and dark ( and its only 4,30). Back into the car which started first time and off to Glastonbury. Lots of roads were closed so we chose a park at random and headed for the lights. Walked along the floats getting ready to go. They are the size of a double artic lorry and as high. Must have over 1000 light bulbs on them, apparently they take all year to make them I think they adapt last years theme. Headed to the centre of town and found a lots of "angel reading" rebirthing" sort of shops. Lots of "Spiritually in touch" people live here.
Found a good spot and waited. First past was a baton twirling troupe, then a marching band of batmans some with very big beer bellies. Then came 2 hours of parade, both the huge illuminated floats and individuals dressed up like the wearable arts show, all sorts. then more floats. The heat that came off the floats was amazing still if you work out 1000 60 watt bulbs it come to enough to warm your hands by. We were on a bend and had a great view of the front, then side of all the floats and got to watch the tractor divers trying to get them round the corner. Lots of med in yellow jackets directing. Every 10 float would be a trailer with central curtains that the public though money into, to pay for parade and for good caused. So there was lots of copper coins flying and kids running our on the road to pick them up, most of whom then through the money at the next trailer. It was definitely locals on the floats lots of well fed country girls and their mums and grandmas often in Lycra, not a flattering fabric at the best of times but when you are 14 stone or so even less. Good on them I say they were having a lot of laughs. A couple of the floats were spectacular with the light music people etc you can't really get an idea from the photos but imaging that lots of the groups of light bulbs are moving up down around and there is a thumping beat and things waving and 6000 watts of light. Excellent.
It was good fun but by the end I was cold and all Lighted out. We headed back to car and Bristol with no traffic trouble which was a surprise. The carnivals are on in 8 different North Somerset towns and the super amazing floats go to all the parades. http://www.somersetcarnivals.co.uk/movie.asp?id=Bri-07-553.wmv&year=07 video from their site please visit for more movies and details,
