work

So we are both working , P for the gas pipe company checking all the pipes are where they say they are on two different systems.

I am working for Aptuit, http://www.aptuit.com/default.aspx ( click on HOME to get all the pictures etc)
in Bathgate, see picture, a pharmaceutical bio chem company. The company develop, test, make and pack drugs all over the world and are an American company. I work for one of the 6 UK divisions as a General Ledger Management Accountant. I have been there two days, yesterday I reconciled the Edinburgh, Euro bank account and today the Edinburgh US$ account. It takes all day and involves bringing in data from JP Morgan ( bank) in New York and data from our accounting support in USA ( not sure where) and then creating all sorts of comparison tables till eventually it all balances. I was very pleased with myself today as I remembered most of what I learnt yesterday. At the weekend I did all sorts of practice excel, pivot tables and stuff on the Microsoft training page to be able to do what I said in the interview I could do, I am really glad I did as I have been using it a lot.

Only down side is that I drive an hour there and back which is a pain but the bus goes all over the place and takes 2 hours ( after I would have to get another 20 min one to go get it in town)
and the train would be 20 min bus, 30 min train and 30 min walk.... I guess I keep driving
its good except in town and on the bypass where the traffic gets heavy and there are tailbacks and queues.

The people I work with are very friendly, 6 of us went to a Chinese buffet restaurant for lunch today was nice to chat and get out of the office.

It is an open plan office and about 50 of us behind those little screens, you can see everyones heads. It is the first time in 20 years I have not had my own office.

We are looking forward to welcoming Linda, ex Otago girls teacher, to come and stay, it will be nice to show someone round and maybe see some new sights ourselves.
