beach day

Up into more sun and blue skies we decided to have a day trip to the sea side, Cote d'azure

We have a lovely drive through Martigues which has a Venice of France label as it has canals and lots of boats. It was very pretty and had lots of painting opportunities if I ever get to my
watercolour set.

Through Istres which was a huge lake district with a stop for lunch and watch the ladies playing boules , first time we had seen women usually its men waving their arms and having a sit in the shade between turns. Also table of men sitting under trees in the park playing cards. Hard life living over here.

also stopped at St Chames, a huge aqueduct which we walked along in blazing sun. Around the corner dug into the cliff face were homes with large windows, we couldn't see how they got in
them though must have been from the top of the cliff.

Lovely round the lake drive , more villages and finally the sea side. It is a rocky coast line so we
had difficulty finding a place to park that had access to the water. Found a place and stripped off, himself convinced he is the whitest man on the beach ( true) . Difficult getting in so had to wear my jandles down to the waters edge then fling myself into the waves..I had goggles so had a nice time checking out all the fish. Managed to find a sandy patch to stand on and watch while P leapt off the break water a few times ( him and the young boys).

Then a nice lie in the sun. After we dried off we went to beach front cafe for a gelato and watch the sun sparkle on the sea.

Then back to Salon, we went to a local bar that had a band stand set up and watched as the locals danced to country and western, Scottish, Irish, local and 70s hits a huge mix up of music with the English songs having strange accenting. Even managed a wee dance our selves.
It was still warm at midnight and the band had not stopped I think they would have danced till
dawn.

Thank goodness for aircon the room was nice and cool.... who would have thought cool would be good.
