Balloon Fiesta

It dawned sunny and hot so we headed off to Bristol and Ashton Park estate. There was a full fun fair with masses of rides and at least 100 different food stalls. They expect 500,000 people over the 3 days, I think about a lot where there on Saturday with us. As it is Europe's largest balloon festival i suppose the number are to be expected. Having said that we easily got a big space to put our blanket, a nice slope with a view and settled in. There were parachutists, toy plane flyers, pipe bands and the the red arrows airforce acrobatics squad. They were fantastic, close formation flying making lots of shapes and high speed passing low over the crowd ( just like Wanaka air show).

Then they had the mass balloon launch, 90 different balloon, all colours and ones shaped like a car, a square, a 165ft scottish piper, a huge bulldog and a big green monster. Then they all took off and the sky was full of colour.

We then had a wander about and food, one of the sideshows was balloons of the round variety
that a child would get in they seal it then pump air in and then the child and many others roll around in a pool of water. I looked great all the fun of a zorb, a lilo and no getting wet.

They also had a rollercoaster and lots of blow up slides , but big grown up size one, single are ferris wheel that flung people round like a propeller and lots of ghost trains sort of things,.
Then as night fell another 40 balloons came and inflated then to music they performed a "glow" show, lighting up their balloons to suit the music. Lovely stuff.

Then we had a fireworks display to finish. Which must have been horrifying for the people on the ride that was in front of them, bangs and lights while you are spinning up side down. We got a great shot of them at the top when a huge firework went off.

A very orderly walk out to a huge bus queue a trip to the railway station where the last train to Bath had left already ( now midnight) so we got a taxi home all of £35 still the balloon festival entry was free so it evens out.
