Tantallon castle and more

We headed out for a drink on Friday night , we went to Kings Wark
a lovely old pub stone walls and an open fire that we sat beside.

The birds have now cleaned  out the bird feeder 3 times and we have run out of seed. The finches have arrived now and chase the wee green tits away.

Saturday we went to Haddington to a craft
fair to see a workmates craft stall, it was a hall full of things I did not want. Then we went for a walk , it was  freezing cold but blue skies and sunny. Then we had  a quick lunch and read of the papers and headed off to see  still more ruins.

This time we went to Hailes castle ( on the way there while navigating a very narrow one way  lane we had a deer  bouncing/running along in front of the car until it leapt a fence .. very rural)  and then to Tantallon castle.

I have just read a murder novel that had one of it's victims squeeze through a window and on to the rocks so I thought we should go have a look.
It is huge and must have been quite something special when complete and full of people. The towers were 6 stories high, then Oliver Cromwell came and battered it with canon fire until they surrendered and the castle ruined.

It was a bit windswept being on a cliff ( it has a large ditch separating it from the mainland so it like a cliff island??

Out to sea was Bass rock which had a lighthouse. At some time in the past it has 150 soldiers
stationed there living on fish they stole off the seagulls and eating the seagulls themselves... lovely diet really, they were defending the Forth  river mouth from the English.

I have my suitcase out and so far have packed a nighty  .. still it is a start.

Going to be odd my last week of work, but there is some hope that they can get permission for me to come back , the ruling is no temps but we are going to work it that I am on leave not left.

They have to get approval from Kansas head office otherwise and they have saying no, something to do with the economy slipping??
