Jersey

We are all regular work goers now so the morning shower routine is a finely honed timetable.

Decided as we had started work it was time for the school holidays, I worked one week from home P went to school then the next week we went to Jersey.

First we went to see Wayne ( best man) who was in London for a week, half way there the brakes on our car failed completely. Hugely scary with P grabbing the hand brake and stopping us hitting the car in front. We made it to the meeting using only the hand brake. Had some time with Wayne and then P got the AA to tow him to a garage while I tried to find another way to Poole to meet the Ferry. I got a couple of train tickets that suited and we headed off.

The car left abandoned at the garage. The hotel in Poole was a blast from the past full of horrible ornaments and giant turtle shells. There was nothing on the dinner menu that p or I wanted but to give the chef credit he made a nice vege asparagus crepe for me and a cheese omelet for P.

Next day off to the ferry, a good enough crossing boat with lots of seats and tables. I went out and watched the harbour at Poole, Guernsey and Jersey.

Jersey was lovely we had a fabulous five star hotel with concierge and a beautiful sea view of a small harbour full of boats. The large white one slightly up the hill , our bedroom on left of building top floor 4th window from the left.

Day one we pottered about local Jersey and the beach.

We spent the next day walking up to the german gun placements, massive amounts of concrete building gun and lookout sites.

we also came across a wonderful lighthouse which was reached by a walkway that was covered at high tide, we arrived by a fluke as the tide came in and covered it.Photo

We then walked and walked went to a huge sandy beach, because Jersey has such a high tide the sea is either up to the walkway or a mile away leaving a huge clean beach. I would like to come in summer.

We missed the bus so walked back over the island, walked for 8 hours all up but it was a wander and nice sunny day.
Day three we had a walking tour with Tom who told us all about living in Jersey during the German occupation after the tour we went to the Underground tunnels that had been dug out and used for storage and a hospital.  http://www.jerseywartunnels.com/

Last .day the rain fell in sheets so we went to the maritime museum to shelter and look about.
Then on to the ferry and a rougher crossing but I took sea sick pill and played on my ipad  so not too bad.

Then we had to get a hotel as we had no car and then next day trained back to London.

We spent the next few days looking for a new car as the brakes are ruined in the toyota and the starter motor is on the way out,
we went to car yards but eventually bought one off the side of the road.
super clean body and interior in first class order and drives a treat so far.

P drove off to work happily on Monday but got hit by a Kon Tiki bus on Thursday...... he was nit a happy man.  No one ever hit the other 3 cars we have had in the UK all worth under £500  noooo they wait and hit his one.
Will see what the panel beater says but a casual enquiry from one we stopped at said £500 or so worth so not too bad.

Old car we are donating to a charity.

we went to the London marathon today

saw lots of tired people and some in very silly outfits who looked very hot including a rhino or two

there were drum bands, jazz bands and singers

joined at one of the tube stations walked miles 11-12 then sat on the banks of the thames at a food fair drinking Pimms  such a hard life

and the sun shone all day
