More Nice

The hotel was lovely we had balconies on both of our rooms. Off we went for a walk down the wide Boulevard Anglaise, ie the beach walk, lots of people out strolling, well you can when it is 28deg at night. Next morning up and off exploring, first for a breakfast cafe, then away round the old part of Nice, and then down to the port. Some huge ostentatious yachts far more than you would need for a spot of fishing. A cruise ship, a ferry and some cute fishing boats. Then to the top of the hill and a wonderful view of both the port and the main beach of Nice. Bit hot getting up there tried to walk on the shady side all the way ( opposite from UK), Fantastic view and then down and through an antiques market. All sorts of strange old stuff.

Then a quick change and we went for a swim in the warm Med, borrowed beach mats and umbrella from the hotel and spent an hour or so swimming and lying about.
The portion of the beach next to us was the take off place for parachutes being towed behind a boat, so we got to watch couples run down the beach then head into the sky. The landing was more fun as the boat stops they drop into the sea and the helpers all try to get to them before the parachute fills with too much air and drags them through the water. It is a pebbly beach so a bit sore to get to the water and then it got deep really quickly. Because it is quite salty it was lovely to float and look at the blue sky.

Back to the hotel to change for dinner and Shirl and I sat on her balcony and drunk the Rose that P had bought for my romantic surprise.
Then back to the narrow streets of the old town, now though they are full of cafe tables and street stalls and shops were all open. We found a really good restaurant with a great waitress and tried the Nice specialty, Socca, which turned out to be a pancake made with ground chick peas, not overly exciting. But the meal was great even tipped the waitress. Then we had another wander along the sea shore past the nutella crepe stands.

more tomorrow, himself is back from his first hockey practice in 3 years and needs someone to peel him off the floor.
