Edinburgh

Well C and O have been to Cardiff, Belfast and now Edinburgh so they are getting to see a good bit of the UK.

The trip to Edinburgh was long but we broke it with a 3 hour stop in York ( yes where we should be living now if we had gone with plan A). York was lovely and lots of snow, nice old buildings and alley ways. There were massive numbers of police about as they were waiting for the student fees protest march.
Then finally in Edi and the snow was the thickest I have seen anywhere, the cars had a foot on top of them. We squeezed into a metered park opposite the hotel ( in Haymarket ) and the hotel said while it was snowy the meter men don't come round ( we got 4 days free).

Hotel was lovely for a travelodge we got large rooms at the end of an alcove with high ceilings and C and O even had a bath. Nice and warm and very central and only £29 per night so all good really.

Morning one and we had the in house breakfast lots of eggs and bacon and all the cereal you could eat so a good start for the day the sausages could not get through the snow!

We headed into town and walked to the castle but is was closed because of the snow which was falling, we then tried doing the Ian Rankin walking tour but it was a pain getting the phone wet ( it is an Iphone app that I had downloaded). |so we pottered, got cold, visited the museum for a while to warm up and then they shut early to let their staff go home early. It was quite magical and looked how Scotland should look all snowy, I have never seen such heavy snow in streets before every footpath and car was covered and it was really powdery.

I will do day 2 tomorrow as the younguns want my laptop.
